Arnett Brings SEC Experience to Auburn Staff

Former Mississippi State Defensive Coordinator Joins Tigers

AUBURN, Ala. - Hugh Freeze has made his first major staff hire at Auburn, bringing in former Mississippi State defensive coordinator Zach Arnett as an analyst. Arnett, 36, has a wealth of experience in the SEC, having spent the past five seasons with the Bulldogs.

Arnett's hire is a significant move for Freeze, who is looking to build a strong foundation for his new program. Arnett is a respected defensive mind who has a proven track record of success. In his five seasons at Mississippi State, Arnett's defenses ranked among the top 25 in the nation in scoring defense.

Arnett's only immediate connection to Auburn comes in the form of Athletic Director John Cohen, who was the Bulldogs' athletic director from 2012 to 2016. Arnett is expected to play a key role in helping Freeze build a competitive defense at Auburn.

Arnett began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at San Diego State from 2011 to 2013. He then spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at North Texas before joining Mississippi State in 2018.

Arnett's hiring is a clear indication that Freeze is serious about building a winner at Auburn. Arnett is a young, talented coach with a bright future. He will be a valuable asset to Freeze and the Tigers.
